Description

The largest temple of the Jodo sect of Japanese Buddhism in the city is Zojo-ji Temple. The temple, established in 1393, was moved in 1598 to its current location. In 1974, the temple, as it stands today, was completed. A magnificent wooden gate towering 69 feet (21 meters) above the ground is Sangedatsumon (Main Gate). It's one of the few surviving buildings from the Edo Era temples.
