Cultural-Historical
Until the end of the 16th century, the political and cultural center of Poland was Wawel Royal Castle, also known as Zamek Wawelski. In the 11th century, the castle was built next to a chapel devoted to the Virgin Mary by King Boles-aw Chrobry. It was occupied in the 17th century by the Austrians during the Third Division and later by the Swedish and Prussian armies.
