Description

In the Gothic Revival style, the Vaucluse House was built in 1803, with small turrets and battlements. It once belonged to ex-convict Sir Thomas Henry Browne Hayes, who was sent to Australia for the kidnapping of the daughter of a banker. It also once served as the residence of William Charles Wentworth, the novelist, explorer and politician who restored this former cottage to the mansion it is today.
