Cultural-Historical
Moscow's metro system is one of the world's busiest. With 185 stations, it's also one of the highest, at 190 miles long. The stations are a kind of free public art show and, in their architecture and decoration, tell the history of the city. In the hopes that their elegance would inspire staff on their way to dreary jobs under Soviet rule, the ornate stations were built so lavishly.
