Description

In Greece, Cape Sounion lies on the shore of the Saronic Gulf. Since 44 BC, the Temple of Poseidon has stood on the hilltop overlooking the harbor. In the 19th century, Lord Byron inscribed one of the final surviving Doric columns. For tourists along this risky stretch of coast, the temple is a gleaming white lighthouse.
