Cultural-Historical, Religious
In 1818, St Isaacs Cathedral was commissioned by Tsar Alexander I to commemorate Napoleon's defeat. It took over 40 years to construct the majestic cathedral and it now ranks among the world's largest domed cathedrals. With painstakingly sculpted reliefs, grand bronze doors and a colonnaded iconostasis decorated with semiprecious stones, the cathedral interiors are similarly luxurious.
