Description

St Charles Borromeo's Cathedral, or Karlskirche, is Vienna's finest baroque church. After a vow by Karl VI at the conclusion of the 1713 plague, it was constructed between 1716 and 1739. In Rome, the twin columns are based on Trajan's Column and depict scenes from the life of St Charles. The massive oval dome reaches 72m (236 ft) and the height of the dome provides a vivid, spacious nave.
