In the 1820s, building of the Royal Palace in Oslo began. More than 2,000 trees, most of which are still standing, were planted in the park. The Royal Palace, now Herald V, is the official residence of the Norwegian Royalty. During the summer months, the palace is available to visitors and gives guided tours in the summer.
