Cultural-Historical, Temple-Tomb
Japan's most popular rock garden is Ryoan-ji. The site was originally a home for aristocrats and was converted in 1450 into a Buddhist temple. The garden is a rectangular pebble plot with 15 larger stones interspersed almost randomly over moss swaths. Some have said that infinity reflects the garden; some see it in the infinite sea. As enticing as the temple itself, the luscious setting is.
