Römerberg is Frankfurt's cultural heart and always the first destination for visitors. During World War II, it was destroyed by bombs and was later restored to reflect its original Gothic theme. It is flanked by half-timbered buildings, a town hall, and a church. This square has been playing an integral part in trade fairs since the 12th century.
