Established in the 1820s, influenced by the temples of ancient Greece, it was built as a temple of muses. Originally used for exhibits, teaching and other artistic activities in permanent art. The Rath Museum has been holding smaller exhibits of Swiss and foreign art and archaeology since the larger Musee dArt et dHistoire opened in 1910.
