Cultural-Historical, Museum
Moscow's main European art gallery is the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Opened in 1912, it was renamed to commemorate the centenary of the death of Pushkin in 1937. Works by Van Gogh, Matisse, Gauguin, Picasso and others are in the collection. Most of the portraits were obtained as private estates were nationalized in the 1920s and 1930s.
