Description

In the early 19th century, Plantey Park was built to take the place of the walls of the Old Town. The park is truly a chain of parks, linked by walkways and lawns, designed in various styles. A Carmelite monastery that was formerly used as an Austrian jail contains several prominent landmarks. From the window of a 17th-century bishop's palace, Pope John Paul II once welcomed the people of Krakow.
