Pavlovsk Palace was a gift to her son, the future Emperor Paul I, from Catherine the Great. The neoclassical palace is located in an idyllic 1,500-acre compound. Before his premature death in 1801, it served as the summer residence for the Emperor and his wife, Maria Feodorovna. The painstakingly renovated palace is open to the public today.
