After a disastrous 1671 assault by Captain Morgan's pirate force, Panam¡Viejo (Old Panama) was deserted. There is a striking juxtaposition with modern Panama City, noticeable through the sea. At the onsite museum, interesting findings from current geological excavations are shown. On view are the former cathedral and other stone buildings and walls.
