The Old Synagogue, founded during the fifteenth century, is Poland's oldest surviving synagogue. In 1570, the Italian architect Mateo Gucci restored the building, incorporating a Renaissance aesthetic. The Germans took over the premises after World War II and used it as a factory. Today, a Jewish history and culture museum houses the restored synagogue.
