Cultural-Historical
The Old Fort Prison Complex was built in 1896 by the Boers to house British invaders who were imprisoned. The key portion of the Old Fort was a white-only jail under apartheid. In 1962, Nelson Mandela was briefly imprisoned there until his Rivonia Trial. Among those held in another section, too, was Gandhi.
