Description

Since the 6th century BC, Old Cairo has been inhabited. It was a Roman fort defending trading lines, a Christian town from about the 5th century AD, a 641 AD Muslim army base, then the capital city of Egypt. The Religious Estate, full of churches and the oldest synagogue in Egypt, contains the narrow cobbled streets.
