Description

The Luxor Obelisk was erected in 1836 and is one of the twin obelisks marking the entry to the Luxor Shrine. The memorial was gifted by the Viceroy of Egypt to King Charles X. It was erected in Place de la Concorde as a sign of reconciliation after the French Revolution. Initial hieroglyphic tributes to the pharaoh Ramses II are included in the obelisk. It is also called the Needle of Cleopatra.
