Cultural-Historical
Nowa Huta was designed to house the residents in a garden town as a piece of Communist propaganda. Between its broad boulevards, public parks and regimented apartment blocks, the city hosted 100,000 inhabitants at its height. During the Solidarity protests of the early 1980s, it became a hotbed of revolutionary revolt.
