Myra is one of the cities along the Lycian Way, a popular long-distance hiking trail in Turkey. In the area of Lycia, the Greco-Roman amphitheater in Myra is the largest. There lived and died Saint Nicholas, a bishop who was the inspiration for Santa Claus. In 1087 AD, his remains were stolen and taken to Italy, but his church is still available to the public.
