The life and culture of the indigenous Guanche people are the subject of the Museo de la Naturaleza y El Hombre. Guanche mummies and skeletons, preserved by soaking them in pine resin and salt, are of special interest. The top attraction of the museum is a display dedicated to the native people who lived in Tenerife until it was taken over by the conquerors of Europe. An ancient process of soaking bodies in pine and salt and allowing them to dry in the sun maintains the Guanche funeral rituals.
