Description

In 1657, Bas-lica del Seor de Monserrate was originally constructed as a monastery. Still leading up to the sanctuary is the original stone path lined by statues representing the 14 Stations of the Cross. It is a steep climb to a cool 3152m (10,339ft) that pilgrims and fitness buffs still use. A funicular, a steeply pitched train, or teleferico, a cable car system, is used by most visitors.
