Cultural-Historical
The first large stone building to be built in St Petersburg was Menshikov Palace. Crafted by Italian architects, it is the only private building from the early 18th century that has survived. Since 1967, the palace has functioned as a branch of the State Hermitage Museum. The rooms that were host to some of the city's first balls were returned to their original condition.
