Cultural-Historical, Movie-Theater
The Mariinsky Theatre, founded in 1859, is the preeminent venue for opera and ballet in St. Petersburg. The world-renowned Kirov Ballet is home to the theater. In 1944, after being destroyed during the Siege of Leningrad, the present-day building was rebuilt. It features a 1,625-seat auditorium and an incongruously futuristic structure, Mariinsky II.
