Nature
The first spot where a Western explorer set foot on the island of Maui was Makena. The area is rife with ancient history and tradition. A rugged road commissioned by King Piilani is the Kings Highway, which once wound its way through the whole island. Keawalai Church, founded in 1832, is a Congregational Church where sermons are still given in the Hawaiian language.
