Description

Madame Tussaud was a wax sculptor who became an art teacher in Paris in the 1770s at the Palace of Versailles. She was inspired to make death masks of executed aristocrats after the French Revolution. A gallery for her wax likenesses of popular — and notorious — contemporary characters was constructed in London in the early 19th century.
