Lion Square is a perfect spot for visitors to watch, have a bakery in one of the many cafes, or visit the ancient Fountain of Morosini. The square was the largest slave market in the Eastern Mediterranean during the time of Arab rule (9th-10th century AD). Lion Square was the site of the Venetian Duke of Crete's Residence, also known as the Ducal Palace, in Venetian times.
