In eastern Switzerland, Lake Walen is a lake dividing the cantons of Glarus and St.Gallen. It forms part of an area known as Heidiland, named after Johanna Spyri's popular Heidi story. In both sides of the bay, the mountains climb nearly vertically and nestle on small plateaus.
