Cultural-Historical, Religious
To mark Russia's independence from Polish invaders in 1612, Moscow's Kazan Cathedral was built between 1633 and 1636. Prince Dmitry Pozharsky also prayed to Our Lady of Kazan, a sacred icon. In 1936, as part of a larger scheme to reshape Red Square to host military parades, the church was purposely destroyed.
