The Karla Caves in Maharashtra, India, are a series of intricately carved Buddhist shrines. They were founded in ancient India thousands of years ago and represent the architecture and culture of Buddhism of the period. The oldest, dated all the way back to the 1st century BC, is the largest of the group and has a teak-wood roof and rows of pillars adorned with sculptures.
