Description

In Wenceslas Square, Jan Palach set himself on fire to protest the annexation of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Union. A horizontal weather-worn wooden cross coming up from the cobblestone streets is the memorial. Although travelers accept that the monument is not well marked or rather well-explained, in Czech history its importance is great.
