Description

A group of four islands off the coast of Marseilles is the Iles du Frioul. They are Pomigues, Ratonneau, Tiboulen and If. They remained largely uninhabited until the 16th century. The islands were the ideal location for a fort to protect Marseille, determined by Francois the Ist. They have been used by people accused of having plague or cholera as a place of quarantine.
