Beitou District is home to the most prominent set of natural volcanic hot springs in Taiwan. With billowing clouds of hot steam emerging from secret cracks in the earth, sulfurous mist pervades the air. Locals used to come here to cook eggs in the extremely acidic waters. The hot springs baths here scale up to 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit).
