The Hartbeespoort Dam, built in the 1920s, stands more than 195 feet high and extends 490 feet through the valley. At its lowest point, the reservoir behind it is up to 150 feet. The water quality is usually considered poor, but there are plenty of opportunities around the water's edge for boating excursions and picnics.
