Description

Hagia Sophia was founded by Emperor Justinian in 532 AD to be the world's largest place of worship. Behind the Ottomans, the church became a mosque, and its mosaics and decor were plastered over.They have been exposed since the 1930s, when the building was named a museum by the famous Turkish king, Atatrk. Its architecture was the inspiration for the San Marco basilica in Venice.
