Born in 1846 in St Petersburg, Peter Carl Faberge went into the family jewelry business. In 1885, he became the favorite of the ill-fated Russian Imperial family, chosen to represent the Russian court. The Bolsheviks looted the Imperial Jewels Collection during the assassination of the Romanovs in 1918, and Faberges escaped to Lausanne, Switzerland, where he died two years later.
