Description

Decatur House was built in 1818 for Stephen Decatur, the naval hero of the War of 1812. Among its tenants were Henry Clay and Martin Van Buren. Architecturally, it's an interesting mash-up of Victorian influences from the austere Federal and wedding cake. A permanent collection of Federalist and Victorian furnishings is on display at the House Museum.
