Description

The Dandenong Ranges are made up of low mountains with gullies lush with ferns, trees and streams, situated about 22 mi (35 km) east of Melbourne. While it served as a major source of timber in the late 19th century, the establishment of the Dandenong Ranges National Park in 1987 resulted in preservation efforts. Throughout the year, the park enjoys many tourists, including those riding on the famous Puffing Billy Railway, which winds through the ranges in the south.
