To the west of Johannesburg, a 181-square-mile field includes about 300 caves where thousands of hominid and animal fossils have been found, some dating back as long as four million years.Humankind's Cradle is one of the world's most important archaeological and anthropological sites, having created the most complete human fossil record. The place is built like a massive burial mound covered with vegetation, where the formation of our world and the four billion-year history of life on Earth are detailed in a variety of exhibits.
