Description

Coudenberg marks the location of the Belgian Royal Family's original palace, which was demolished to make room for the new Royal Palace. A small, fortified castle stood on Coudenberg Hill in the 12th century, and it was eventually expanded and reworked by successive monarchs. This magnificent palace was destroyed by fire in 1731, but its ruins were not taken down until 40 years later.
