Cultural-Historical, Religious
The Christ the Savior Cathedral was initially commissioned after Napoleon's defeat by Tsar Alexander I. It is the tallest Orthodox church in the world, at 103 meters tall, and can handle almost 10,000 church-goers. Eventually, the cathedral was consecrated in 1883, but its tenure was short-lived when it was demolished by the Soviets in 1931 to make room for the Soviet Grand Palace.
