The Budapest Chain Bridge was the first city to cross the Danube and is now its most popular crossing. The bridge was opened in 1849 and is 375 meters long and 16 meters wide. Originally a toll bridge, it was designed by Alan Clark, an English architect who also had a hand on the Hammersmith Bridge over London's Thames River.
