Description

Excluding Athens, Cape Sounion is the southernmost point on mainland Greece. Legend has it that the King of Athens leapt out of a cliff there, binding his name to the Aegean Sea forever. Poseidon's Temple is a temple from the 5th century B.C.E. into which his name was engraved by the poet Lord Byron. The promontory is also a common location for watching the sun go down into the sea.
