The Panama Canal crosses the Bridge of the Americas. It was inaugurated on Oct. 12, 1962, and requires cars, bikes and pedestrians to pass in. Twenty million U.S. dollars went into the four-lane bridge development. It is 5,425 feet in length, and the clearance is 201 feet at high tide, under which ships must travel.
