Cultural-Historical, Museum
In 1930, the wealthy philanthropist Antonis Benakis founded the Benaki Museum. He donated to the museum almost 40,000 items of Byzantine and Islamic sculpture. From the fall of Constantinople in 1453 to the establishment of the Greek state in 1821, it now focuses exclusively on Greek history.
