In Brazil, the Atlantic Forest, or Biosphere Reserve of Mata Atlantica, spans 14 states and extends over more than 20,000 acres. The urban parks of Tijuca National Park in Rio de Janeiro and Cantareira State Park in Sao Paulo are situated within the biosphere reserve. roughly half of all the species of plant and animal life in the Atlantic Forest live just within its borders.
