Description

Before the war began, the 1,100 acre plantation was the home of the generals. The house asserted its place in US history as the residence of the grandson of George Washington Parke Custis Martha Washington, years before it was General Lees' home. One of the nation's first museums of historic American objects was founded by G.W.P. Custis.
