One of the largest and most significant museums in Turkey is the Antalya Museum. There are over 12,000 objects in the museum relating to the history of Anatolia's Mediterranean and Pamphylia areas. It was established in 1922 to safeguard the archaeological treasures of the country from being plundered during World War I by the Italians.The museum today has 13 exhibition galleries, including prehistoric regional excavations and galleries, pottery, mosaics and numerous statues.
