One of the most recognisable symbols of Turkey's capital is the Ankara Citadel. In and around the castle, the buildings serve as some of the oldest genuine examples of traditional Turkish architecture. Many of the old houses were restored inside the citadel and turned into restaurants, creating the atmosphere of an ancient Anatolian village. As in a typical Turkish town, the local people still live, with women beating and sorting through wool skeins.
